What if Snow White kicked a hole through her glass coffin and escaped before the prince ever found her? What if Ariel never grew feet, and instead her prince grew a tail? Or, what if the fairy tales we grew up with weren’t what the writers originally imagined? What if the books we read as children were actually softened retellings of horror stories - stories of poisoned princesses whose babies revived them through breastfeeding, and tales of blinded princes whose sight could only be restored by the damsels they set out to rescue? Here are four scenes from re-imagined fairy tales; two are based on original versions, and two are my own creations.
